Nuggett came to rescue because his owner turned him over the shelter in Nevada County. He stated that Nuggett (not his name...we named him once he came to GRNC) was not working out as a LGD (Livestock Guardian Dog). We named him Nuggett because he came from the Gold Country.
He was very shy and not sure who to trust. A lot of the dogs that come to rescue have trust issues. We placed him in foster care and he slowly learned that nothing bad or mean was going to happen to him. When the foster family first got him he didn't bark....at all. Then slowly as his trust level grew he would bark when the other dogs would bark...then he would bark before the other dogs.
Then Delphina came to be interviewed along with her daughter. Nuggett came and sat with them and seemed to know that they would be good for him.
Delphina came back a couple weeks later....after securing her fencing, to pick Nuggett up. He was still somewhat shy but did come out of his dog house to get petted. I showed Delphina how to groom him and found out very quickly that he was BLOWING coat. She got to experience "the blow"!
After getting him combed out she loaded him into her car (a two seater with the back seat down and the sun-roof open) and off they went.
Delphina called a couple of days later and reported that Nug was settling in just fine.
