GPRNC - 2003 Rescue Volunteers Appreciation Picnic

July 12th started out like any other weekend day…the sun rose…the dogs barked …and we packed the van to go to a dog event!

However, this was not just any dog day...it happened to be the day for the 4th Annual Appreciation picnic sponsored by GPRNC.

This picnic was started to thank all those who supported rescue. Support comes in many forms and all is greatly appreciated. For if not for the support offered by others those of us who “do” rescue daily couldn’t do what we do. These supporters foster dogs, check shelters, transport, groom, facilitate Home Inspections, donate money or adopt a rescue and giving it a “forever” home.

The picnic was a rocking success! We fed 42 people a BBQ lunch of hamburgers and potato salad. There was good conversation with new and old families. On one side of the grass was an impromptu grooming session while on the other side families where talking about how far their rescue had come since bring him/her home and they couldn’t remember life without their dog. Shortly after lunch we held our 2nd Annual CGC test. We had 8 dogs try and 7 passed! Congratulations to all who were courageous enough to try and GOOD JOB to those that passed. We will try to offer this again next year as it seemed to be good entertainment and learning for those that watched.

We then had our 1st Annual Group Picture. That was SO much fun…getting all the dogs and owners together for a group photo. We will try and do this yearly too if we can.

We had our usual raffle and gave away about $200.00 dollars worth of donated doggy items. We raffled off the Rescue Quilt and Dan and Courtney Schlosser (who adopted Zaney, now Annie) won it and hugged it all the way to her car. I think it is in good hands.

So if this sounds like a lot of fun - it was and you should mark your calendar to attend next year! We’d love to have you!
