GPRNC’s
3rd Annual Appreciation Picnic was held July 13, 2002 and was
a roaring success! Thanks to all who
attended…. We
reserved Central Park in Davis again this year and without being told found
that we were sharing it with the community Farmer’s Market. That made parking a little more than
challenging but we all seemed to find a spot and get settled. And the public stopped by to ask about the
dogs…it was great for public education. |

Randy
Carpadus and Evelyn DiMarco got the BBQ lunch together as Elisa Ungerman
coordinated the “Pyr-dash”. What a
hoot! She made a long chute and
painted lines on the grass to stand behind…. then we lined the dogs up one at a
time. The owner then went to the other end of the chute to call his or her dog
to them while someone else held the dog at the starting line. Elisa then started her stopwatch and the dog
was let go. Yes they actually stayed
inside the guidelines…. much to everyone’s surprise. Elisa was confident that they would, “I’ve never lost one yet!”
she claimed. And today was no
different. |

We
then ate, and ate, and ate…Randy BBQ’d hamburgers and hotdogs while Evelyn got
the salads, chips and cookies ready for 44 people while the 23 pyrs in
attendance laid around in the shade. GPRNC
uses this event to hand out its Certificates of Appreciation. We handed out a total of 54 Certificates and
of those 11 were for Volunteers of Excellence. We
had gathered raffle items and had a good time (and laugh) getting them all
drawn and awarded. There
was a presentation made of $250.00 to GPRNC.
This money was won by submitting a grant to the company this volunteer
works for for his service to our organization.
Many companies offer grants to its employees for service within the
community. He applied and won and we
thank him for this. You might want to
check with your company for a similar program. Thank
you to all who give of themselves, their money, their hearts and homes to
rescue. We couldn’t do as much as we do
for these dogs if not for people like you. Come
and join us next year. Same place,
Central Park in Davis, close to the same time, usually 2nd weekend
in July.
